Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection or ICSI treatment in Delhi is a revolutionary and emerging Assisted Reproductive Technique (ART) for the fact that it has invariably improved fertilization and pregnancy rates. ICSI works in combination with In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) where the sperms retrieved are injected piercing the outer eggshell into the cytoplasm of the egg. ICSI is preferred or recommended in certain infertility cases where fertilization fails to take place. Some of the other ICSI indications are:

Male Fertility factors:

• ICSI is considered in conditions where the sperm count is below 15 million sperm per mL of semen (oligospermia).
• Asthenozoospermia is another condition where the sperms become immobile.
• Teratozoospermia occurs when the sperms have an abnormal shape, size, and other morphological defects.
• ICSI is done when there is the total absence of sperms in ejaculate. This condition is called azoospermia where there is a defect in the sperm production process or an obstruction in the ejaculatory ducts (obstructive azoospermia), vas deferens, testicles, epididymis. The condition of azoospermia can be either congenital, genetic or a result of some infections.Sperm can be retrieved by PESA or TESA.
• Men with retrograde ejaculation (the semen moves into the bladder instead of coming out of the penis during ejaculation), the sperms can be directly aspirated from the testicles for ICSI.
• Even in men having anejaculation (no ejaculate during ejaculation), the sperms required for ICSI can be obtained from the testes through biopsy or testicular puncture.
• The presence of anti-sperm antibodies causes damage to the natural and healthy sperm resulting in low sperm numbers. Such conditions may require ICSI.
• Patients who want to preserve their semen samples through cryopreservation before undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy or patients who have STDs such as HIV, hepatitis, or patients who are opting for a donor sperm can choose ICSI.

Female Fertility factors:

• Women with low production of eggs and the presence of poor quality eggs may require ICSI.
• The presence of a thick outer egg-shell or zona pellucida may require sperm insertion through ICSI.

Other ICSI Indications:
• Fertilization failure during previous IVF cycles
• Pregnancy failure after several conventional IVF cycles
• Patients considering preimplantation genetic diagnosis/screening (PGD/PGS) of an embryo will need to choose ICSI for a more clear analysis.
• Microinjection of vitrified eggs in case of a fertilization failure during an IVF cycle

ICSI can be effectively used to address several male infertility cases and certain female fertility conditions. OMYA fertility center has adopted this superior ART technology and has helped many couples realize their dream of having children through the IVF-ICSI technique.</span
